Violence in Akure: Duty officer killed after clash with thugs

A police officer on duty was fatally stabbed on Wednesday by suspected thugs in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.
According to information gathered, the officer was attacked near the Arakale area after an argument broke out between him and the suspects.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the Ondo Command, Olushola Ayanlade, confirmed the incident.
He explained that the attack happened early Wednesday morning, not at the time reported on social media.
Ayanlade said the officer was carrying out his lawful duty when he met a group of hostile individuals.
What started as a normal interaction quickly turned violent, and one of the suspects stabbed the officer, causing severe injuries. Emergency help was called immediately.
Police officers were later deployed to the area to restore order and arrest those involved. Two suspects 25-year-old Shina Jacob and 32-year-old Felix Olalekan have since been arrested.
The wounded officer was rushed to the hospital but sadly died despite efforts by medical teams to save him.
The PPRO described the incident as a painful loss for the Command and noted that the officer died while protecting lives and property.
He assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court once the case is concluded.
Ayanlade also warned the public against spreading false information that could cause panic or distort the truth.
