Two men have been arrested in Akure for allegedly stabbing a police inspector to death during an altercation in the Arakale area of the Ondo State capital.
Police spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the incident on Wednesday, saying the officer was on lawful duty when he was attacked by “recalcitrant individuals.”
According to him, an argument broke out between the officer and the suspects before the situation turned violent.
“During the altercation, the officer was tragically stabbed,” Ayanlade said.
A swift response team deployed by the Commissioner of Police arrested two suspects at the scene — Shina Jacob, 25, and Felix Olalekan, 32.
The officer was rushed to the hospital but later died while receiving treatment.
Ayanlade said the follow-up operation was part of the command’s effort to clamp down on violent criminals in the state, warning that attacks on security operatives would not be tolerated.
The two suspects will be charged to court at the end of investigations.
