Nigerian Afropop star Adekunle Gold has opened up on the deeply emotional moment that made him shed tears a few months ago.
The “Many People” crooner made the revelation during a recent podcast appearance, where he recounted how watching his daughter, Deja, perform for the first time brought him to tears, especially because he was not physically present.
According to AG Baby, the emotional breakdown happened unexpectedly while he was walking down the street.
He said the moment he received a video call showing his daughter performing, he felt a powerful mix of pride, joy, and sadness over not being there to witness the milestone in person.
Sharing the experience, Adekunle Gold said:
“When was the last time I cried?
That was the last time — like two, three months ago.
Deja was performing and I wasn’t there, so they called me on video.
It was her first performance.
I’m like, nah, this is crazy.
It’s like the price you have to pay for building and doing this thing you have to do, and also looking after your family.”
He added that the overwhelming emotions inspired his song “My Love is the Same,” explaining that many people don’t realize the sacrifices entertainers make behind the scenes.
“Seeing her performing, I was like, oh damn, I wish I was there.
Yeah… I started to cry.”
The singer, who is married to fellow star Simi, has often spoken about the challenges of balancing fame, work, and family life.
