It was a deserved win for a team that looked more composed, purposeful and threatening throughout the match.

Alexander Isak scored his first Premier League goal for Liverpool as they ended a poor run of results with a 2–0 win over West Ham United at the London Stadium.

The atmosphere was emotional following the news of the death of former West Ham captain and manager Billy Bonds at the age of 79.

Liverpool arrived under pressure after losing nine of their previous twelve matches, but they produced one of their most controlled performances in weeks.

Arne Slot made a bold decision by leaving Mohamed Salah out of the starting line-up for the first time in a league match since April 2024.

The change helped Liverpool look more energetic and organised. Isak led the attack with Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo playing wide, while Florian Wirtz operated behind the strikers. Wirtz linked play well and enjoyed one of his best games since joining Liverpool. Joe Gomez started at right-back, giving the team more stability and allowing Szoboszlai to push further forward.

Liverpool dominated most of the game and created several chances. Isak had already been denied by Alphonse Areola before finally scoring in the 60th minute, finishing Gakpo’s cross with a sharp half-volley. Wirtz also came close to scoring but saw his shot saved.

West Ham had little rhythm, and their situation became worse in the 84th minute when Lucas Paqueta received two quick yellow cards, the second for arguing with the referee.

With West Ham down to ten men, Liverpool added a second goal in stoppage time when Gakpo finished calmly after receiving a well-timed pass from Gomez.

The victory gives Liverpool a much-needed lift and boosts confidence for Isak and Wirtz, who have both been under scrutiny after their big-money transfers.

It was a deserved win for a team that looked more composed, purposeful and threatening throughout the match.
