German twins die by assisted suicide at 89

German entertainment twins, Alice and Ellen Kessler, have died by joint assisted suicide at the age of 89. The process which is legal in Germany was done by the twins who wanted to die together on a specific day.

While speaking with CNN, the German Society for Humane Dying (DGHS), revealed that the twins contacted the organisation, to inform them of their decision, and to proceed with the legal and medical process.

Wega Wetzel, the spokesperson of the DGHS, explained that the twins did not give a specific reason for their decision, noting that it was not related to any psychiatric crisis.

“The decisive factor is likely to have been the desire to die together on a specific date. Their desire to die was well-considered, long-standing, and free from any psychiatric crisis,” Wetzel said.

The Kessler twins had also previously explained that neither of them wants to bear the pain of loss, stating that they would like to go together and on the same day.

“The idea that one of us might get it first is very hard to bear,” they stated.

The twins also insisted that their ashes be kept in the same urn.
