Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has assured that the matter surrounding the conviction and release of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, will be resolved administratively, following his visit to the Sokoto Correctional Centre over the weekend.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, Otti encouraged Kanu to remain calm and strong, assuring him that ongoing engagements initiated over two years ago have been intensified to secure his freedom.
The statement noted that Otti informed Kanu that the Sultan of Sokoto is supportive of the efforts to free him and de-escalate tensions. In a lighter moment, the Sultan reportedly joked that Kanu was now his subject and that he intended to turban him, a remark that made Kanu laugh loudly.
Kanu, described as being in high spirits, thanked Otti for the visit and commended his developmental strides in Abia, comparing them to the legacy of the late Sam Mbakwe of the old Imo State. He also expressed his continued interest in good governance and the welfare of the people.
Governor Otti was accompanied by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna, SAN; his media adviser Ferdinand Ekeoma; top Sokoto State government officials; and Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu.
