Banditry: Police reinforce ban on bikes conveying passengers in parts of Kano

Kano state Police Command has reinforced ban on motorcycles conveying passengers within Kano metropolis.

The ban followed renewed onslaught of banditry attacks in Kano.

The Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies in the State reiterated the enforcement of the existing ban on the conveyance of passengers on all forms of motorcycles and the restriction of commercial tricycles from operating between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am daily in the State.

A Statement by the Kano state Police spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, indicated that the laws providing for the action has been earlier announced by the the State Government.

Kiyawa said the laws remain in full force across the following affected Local Government Areas: Kano Municipal; Gwale; Dala; Fagge; Nassarawa; Tarauni; Kumbotso; Ungogo (Jido Area); Dawakin Kudu (Tambuwal, Gurjiya and Jido Ward).

He said the enforcement team is empowered to effectively profile individuals that flagrantly defy the ban and restriction, and help to curb spread of unverified and misleading information that could instill fear and confusion among the public.

The Command reminded the public, particularly operators of motorcycles and commercial tricycles, that the measures are designed to enhance public safety and security across the State.

“Any person found operating motorcycles or tricycles in contravention of the ban or restriction will be promptly arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, masis, urges all residents to comply with these regulations and extend their cooperation to law enforcement agencies in ensuring peace and order in Kano State. Additionally, the public is encouraged to report any violations or suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, or 09029292926.

“This security partnership, which also incorporates the services of the Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA), will take necessary measures to ensure full compliance with these directives for the safety and security of all residents,” the statement added.
