He added that the operation forms part of the state’s ongoing #ZeroToleranceLagos enforcement drive, which is cracking down on eateries and other facilities breaching environmental safety regulations.

The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has shut down the Yakoyo Abula Joint restaurant in Victoria Island after it was found to be discharging untreated wastewater, fats and oil directly into public drainage channels.

Enforcement officers sealed the premises on Tuesday morning following an inspection that revealed the establishment had been deliberately releasing effluents that blocked drainage systems and created conditions capable of causing waterborne illnesses.

Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, confirmed the action in a post on his X account. He said the restaurant, located at 134 Sinari Daranijo Street, had been contributing to environmental pollution and posing a threat to public health through its improper waste disposal practices.
