The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said it has dispatched certificates of expulsion to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and 10 other members of the party, who were expelled at its recent convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The new national chairman of the party, Tanimu Turaki, SAN, told journalists on Tuesday that the certificates of expulsion were sent to Wike and others through a courier service.
Recall that the PDP had at the Ibadan national convention expelled Wike, alongside Ayodele Fayose, Samuel Anyanwu and eight others for anti-party activities.
Others expelled are: Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), Austin Iwachukwu, Umar Bature, Muhammad AbduRahman, Mao Ohuabunwa, Abraham Ama, George Turnan, and Dan Obi.
The motion for the expulsion of Wike and others was moved by Chief Bode George and was supported by party members present at the convention.
“These people above have committed various breaches of the constitution by holding parallel congresses, canvassing votes for other parties, and sponsoring litigations against the party, among others,” George said on the reasons for the suspension of the party members.
Turaki told journalists on Tuesday that the party decided to send certificates of expulsion to Wike and others because Nigerian law forbids dual membership of political parties.
He added that the letter will make it easy for the expelled members to join other political parties of their choice.
“Now that they are no longer members of our party, and now that the National Convention—which is the highest decision-making organ of our party—has expelled them, we have decided to issue them certificates of expulsion, so that, when they go to register with other political parties in Nigeria, they will show these certificates as proof that they are no longer members of the PDP, and so those parties will not accuse them of trying to belong to more than one political party.
He said the certificates have been dispatched via courier to the 11 people expelled while displaying a copy of the document to journalists.
“This is the certificate of expulsion of His Excellency Nyesom Wike. An original copy has gone to him via courier.
“This is the certificate of His Excellency Ayodele Fayose; it has also been sent to him through courier. This is proof that he has been expelled from the PDP. Next is the certificate of distinguished Senator Samuel Anyanwu; it has been sent to him via courier.
“Next is the certificate of expulsion of Honourable Umaru Bature; that has also been sent to him via courier.
“Next is the certificate of Kamarudeen Ajibade, Senior Advocate of Nigeria; that has also been sent to him via courier.
“Next is that of Abdurahman Muhammad; it has also been sent to him via courier.
“The next one is for Senator Mao Ohuabunwa; it has been sent to him via courier services.
“The next one is for Mr Austin Nwachukwu; his certificate of expulsion has also been sent to him via courier.
“The next is that of Abraham Amah Nnanna; it has been sent to him via courier.
“Second to the last is that of George Turna; this certificate has also been sent to him via courier services.
“I am sure some of them have already received theirs. Last but not least is that of Chief Dan Orbih; it has been sent to him through courier.”
