The Chairman of the 1996/97 set, Frank Ominigbo, summed up this sentiment, noting that the success of each alumnus could be traced back to the school.

The grounds of Ajumoni Secondary School, Iyana-Isolo, came alive on 30 November as members of the 1996/1997 alumni set returned to their alma mater in a colourful celebration that blended nostalgia with a renewed sense of purpose.

What would normally be a quiet school compound transformed into a lively scene of music, bright canopies and animated reunions as former students, now seasoned adults, reconnected nearly three decades after their graduation.

What began as a traditional reunion quickly evolved into a heartfelt tribute to the institution that shaped their early years.

As the guests stepped into the familiar compound, many were visibly transported back in time, overwhelmed with memories of youthful days spent in the classrooms and corridors of Ajumoni Secondary School.

Yet the event was not simply about revisiting the past; it centred on giving back to a community that laid the foundation for who they have become.

The Chairman of the 1996/97 set, Frank Ominigbo, summed up this sentiment, noting that the success of each alumnus could be traced back to the school.

He said the group remained committed to supporting its development and uplifting its standing across Lagos State.

The emotional depth of the day extended to the teachers, several of whom attended to witness their former students return as accomplished professionals.

A long-serving teacher, Mr Alao Adeleke, expressed immense pride in seeing his former pupils thriving and pledged continued support for the school’s progress.

Another teacher, Mr Festus Ogundare, offered warm humour about struggling to recognise some faces nearly 30 years later, but urged the alumni to maintain unity and uplift one another as they advance in life.

A particularly moving moment came when Mrs Opara Sophia encouraged the group to look after the less privileged among them, reminding the audience that supporting one another remains a true measure of collective achievement.

School administrators also extended their appreciation. The Principal of the Junior School, Mrs Muinat Banjo, welcomed the alumni and encouraged them to return regularly, not just to celebrate but to inspire current students through mentorship, career talks and shared experiences.

Her counterpart in the Senior School, Ms Opebiyi Oluremi, acknowledged the alumni’s ongoing contributions, which have helped improve the learning environment.

As the festivities wound down, the significance of the day grew even clearer. The gathering was not merely a reunion but a reaffirmation of shared heritage and responsibility. It marked a renewed pledge to strengthen the institution for the benefit of future students.

For the 1996/1997 set of Ajumoni Secondary School, returning home was more than revisiting old memories, it was an act of community upliftment and a commitment to ensuring that the school continues to thrive for generations to come.
