Google has released its 2025 Year in Search report, showing what Nigerians searched for most during the year. The list highlights political events, top personalities, trending songs, films, and questions people asked online.

Senator Natasha Akpoti was the most searched Nigerian personality in 2025, indicating strong interest in politics. Globally, major events like the Israel–Iran conflict and the U.S. elections were among the most searched topics.
The deaths of notable figures also generated high search traffic. Nigerians searched widely for information following the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, football legend Peter Rufai, and Pope Francis.
Entertainment searches were dominated by Nigerian content. The most searched song was “Oluwatosin (Jesus Is Enough)” by Tkeyz featuring Steve Hills, followed by Fido’s “Joy Is Coming” and “With You” by Davido and Omah Lay.
In movies and series, local productions stood out. Filmmaker Kemi Adetiba was among the most searched personalities after the success of To Kill a Monkey, which became Nigeria’s top trending series.
Nigerians also turned online to understand trending expressions. The question “What is Labubu?” was the most asked search query, as people tried to understand the viral toy-like character making waves on social media. The meaning of “Achalugo,” a term popularised through a movie on YouTube, also trended.
Food remained a big area of interest. Searches included recipes for chinchin, sausage rolls, lasagna, Ginger Shots, and even cocktails like Pornstar Martini.
Speaking on the report, Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Google’s Communications & Public Affairs Manager for West Africa, said the search trends reveal how Nigerians connect with events, culture, and global conversations.
