Davido blasts Sanwo-Olu’s aide over Wizkid promo post

Superstar singer Davido has slammed Jubril A. Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, after a series of social media exchanges involving Wizkid’s promotional banner.

Gawat had shared a poster for Wizkid’s December 28 TBS show with the caption: “Ọmọ Wa ni ”.

A fan praised the post, saying: “Wizkid is the face of Lagos. Baba Bolu always promote Lagos.” Gawat replied: “Yes correct. We are proud of him.”

When another fan asked, “Ore oga nko?” a reference to Davido, Gawat tweeted: “My Oga is proud of him.”

Davido fired back, quoting Gawat: “Bro it’s been a year let it go … why e still dey do u .. grow up.”

Subsequently, Davido quoted another of Gawat’s earlier tweets where he had said: “Ọrẹ Ọga wa ni ”, adding:

“Since yesterday… let it go nah … cheer up.”

Meanwhile, this isn’t the first clash between the Afrobeats star and the Lagos government aide.

On September 21, 2024, Davido and Gawat engaged in a heated exchange on X over political differences. The feud started after Davido tagged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) “the most dangerous institution in Nigeria”, following controversies surrounding the Edo State governorship election.

Dismissing Davido’s claim, Gawat, an APC member, responded cryptically: “This tweet means ONLY one thing.” Davido, a staunch supporter of Edo PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo, shot back: “U go dey here dey tweet nonsense but any time I’m around your principal, nah you go first carry phone with flash like okirika dey blind person eye.”

Gawat fired back by sharing a video of Davido hailing and referring to Governor Sanwo-Olu as “the real 001” during his wedding ceremony.
