In a video broadcast on Thursday, the Zazu crooner insisted that unlike many Nigerian celebrities who he described as “egoistic,” he freely associates with ordinary people and uplifts the less privileged without expecting anything in return.

Controversial street-hop artiste, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has sparked fresh reactions online after boldly claiming he has helped more people in the Nigerian music industry than top stars such as Don Jazzy, Olamide, Wizkid and Davido.

In a video broadcast on Thursday, the Zazu crooner insisted that unlike many Nigerian celebrities who he described as “egoistic,” he freely associates with ordinary people and uplifts the less privileged without expecting anything in return.

Portable said his definition of genuine help goes beyond financial support or collaborations, stressing that he takes struggling individuals into his home, shelters, clothes and feeds them, and even sponsors their first studio sessions.

“Many Nigerian celebrities don’t post their fans even if they dance to their songs or promote them. But I repost every positive video about me,” he said.

The singer added that some big names in the industry rarely feature upcoming artistes unless money is involved, insisting that their so-called “help” is merely business.

“I have helped more people in the music industry than Don Jazzy, Olamide, Wizkid and Davido,” Portable declared.

“Help is when you see a homeless person and take them home, shelter them, clothe and feed them, and take them to their first studio session. Anything other than that is just business.”

He further criticised artistes who accuse their signees of being “ungrateful” once they become independent.

“How are they ungrateful? You only used them for business,” he added.
