The Northern Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has said the appointment of retired Gen. Christopher Musa as the Minister of Defence showed renewed commitment by President Bola Tinubu to resolve widespread security challenges affecting different parts of the country.
Northern CAN said this while congratulating the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff on his appointment as Minister of Defence by Tinubu.
Musa’s appointment followed the resignation of the former Defence Minister, Abubakar Badaru on health grounds.
In a statement on Friday in Kaduna, Chairman of Northern CAN, Rev. Joseph Hayab, said the decision showed renewed presidential commitment to resolving widespread security challenges affecting different parts of the country.
He added that Tinubu demonstrated attentiveness to public concerns by choosing a seasoned military officer known for courage, discipline and strong operational excellence.
Hayab recalled Musa’s leadership as Chief of Defence Staff, stressing that it significantly stabilised several theatres of operation, especially in the North East and North West.
He added that Musa’s return to the national security architecture at ministerial level would strengthen efforts against terrorism, banditry and violent crimes nationwide.
He urged the citizens, traditional rulers, community leaders and security stakeholders to support the new minister, saying that national safety requires collective vigilance and unity.
Hayab encouraged Musa to prioritise frontline troop welfare, deepen inter-agency collaboration and ensure rapid responses to emerging threats across the country.
He also called on the Federal Government to sustain investments in modern equipment, advanced technology and effective intelligence systems.
He said Nigerians expect measurable improvements in security outcomes in the months ahead as reforms and deployments take shape.
Reaffirming its commitment to peace and responsible civic engagement, Hayab expressed confidence that Musa’s appointment would help rebuild trust in security institutions.
“Northern CAN will continue providing moral guidance to support policies that strengthen national stability and the collective good,”Hayab said.(NAN)
