Police probe two brutal killings in Borno

The Borno State Police Command has confirmed that two people were killed in separate incidents in Maiduguri, prompting full-scale investigations into the circumstances of both deaths.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, said the victims, a woman identified as Rifkatu Yohanna and a man later confirmed as Muhammed Ibrahim Saje, were discovered in what he described as “deeply disturbing” conditions.
According to the police, the first incident took place in Shuwari II in the early hours of 3 December 2025.
Rifkatu Yohanna was found inside her room with severe injuries, including a slit to the neck and multiple cuts on her body. She was taken to the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri but was pronounced dead on arrival. Her remains were deposited in the hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.

Later that same day, police at the GRA Division received a report from Bulama Adam of the Polo area, alerting them to an abandoned vehicle containing a lifeless body. The green Honda Civic with registration number GUB 142GB was discovered in a secluded part of Modari Polo, Maiduguri, with the occupant’s throat slit.
Officers secured the area before removing the body, which was also transferred to the State Specialist Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Preliminary findings indicated that both the corpse and the vehicle had been at the scene for more than 24 hours before being discovered. An ATM card and vehicle documents bearing the name Muhammed Ibrahim Saje were recovered, confirming the man’s identity.
The police command noted that both cases have now been handed over to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for detailed investigation.
Borno State Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, has ordered heightened patrols across the state to deter criminals. He warned perpetrators of violent crimes to desist, stressing the command’s determination to ensure that those responsible face the full weight of the law.
