The Kwara State Police Command has arrested eight people suspected of being involved in armed robbery, killings and other crimes across the state. Two Lexus cars and several stolen items were also recovered.

The Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, briefed journalists on Friday in Ilorin, saying one of the major arrests was that of 52-year-old Olatunji Samson. He said Samson allegedly led a violent robbery at Mai Gida Estate, Amoyo, on November 21.

According to the police, the robbers tied up a resident and his security guard before stealing a Lexus RX 350, $10,000, ₦2.95 million, phones, gold jewellery and clothes. The suspect was tracked to Ibadan, Oyo State, where the gang attempted to sell the stolen car for ₦15 million.

The police said Samson confessed to being part of a gang known for stealing cars. Officers are still searching for other members who escaped.

The commissioner also confirmed arrests in other recent cases, including the murder of a hotel worker in Ilorin. The suspect, 26-year-old Yusuf Ibrahim, was said to have sneaked into the hotel at night to steal but killed the victim when she caught him. He has reportedly confessed to the crime and will face prosecution.

Two more suspects, Ibrahim Abubakar and Dele Emmanuel, were arrested after police traced a stolen iPhone 14 Pro Max to them. A Toyota Camry taken during the same attack was also found.

The police also arrested four men, Umar Adamu, Aliyu Umar, Lukman Idris and Kazeem Ahmed — for robbing students in Offa. Several phones and gadgets were recovered.

CP Ojo thanked the media for supporting the fight against crime and assured residents that police will continue to go after criminal gangs in Kwara.
