Mr Michael Ango, the acting Executive Chairman of the FCT Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) was sacked on Friday by the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike.

No reason was given for the sack of Ango announced in a statement by Mr Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the minister on Public Communication and Social Media in a statement.

However, Wike directed that the most senior official of the FCT-IRS should take over the management of the organisation with immediate effect.

Ango was appointed acting chairman of FCT-IRS in August 2024.

He succeeded Haruna Abdullahi, who had served as acting chairman for about three years.

Ango was tasked with overseeing the implementation of strategic initiatives to enhance revenue generation and ensure fiscal sustainability at the time of his appointment.

The sacked acting chair of FCT-IRS, who hails from Kebbi State, holds an LLM degree from Columbia University School of Law, New York and a Bachelor of Laws degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

The FCT-IRS came into being vide the FCT Internal Revenue Service Act of 2015.

It is empowered by the National Assembly to administer tax and non-tax revenues accruable to the Federal Capital Territory.

Therefore, it is responsible for the collection of all the taxes collectible by a state government in accordance with the Taxes and Levies (approved List of Collection) Act of 1998 As Amended.

The Service is also responsible for the coordination of collection of all other revenues accruable to the Federal Capital Territory.
