The Anambra State Police Command says it has foiled a planned cult clash in Enugwu Ukwu, leading to the arrest of two suspects linked to the scheme.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, noting that officers acted on credible intelligence about a gathering of what he described as “a dangerous cult group” preparing for a violent confrontation.
Ikenga said operatives of the Special Anti-Cult Squad stormed the location in the early hours of Dec. 4, where they arrested two members of the suspected group.
“The operatives arrested Oluebube Ifediorah, 21, and Emmanuel Offorbuike, 25,” he stated.
The suspects were apprehended in Enugwu Ukwu, within the Njikoka Local Government Area, after officers quickly secured the scene.
Ikenga added that a locally-made double-barrel shotgun and two live cartridges were recovered during the operation.
He explained that the firearm was found inside a red bag carried by Ifediorah, while other suspected cult members fled upon sighting the police.
The spokesman said investigations were ongoing to track down the fleeing accomplices and dismantle the wider network behind the planned cult war.
He noted that the operation was part of sustained efforts to rid Anambra State of cult-related violence and criminal activities.
The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, urged residents to continue providing credible information to assist the police in combating crime across the state.
