Manchester United produced one of their most commanding performances of the season on Monday night, sweeping aside a struggling Wolves side 4–1 at Molineux to climb to sixth place on the Premier League table.
Goals from Bruno Fernandes, Bryan Mbeumo, Mason Mount and a late Fernandes penalty sealed a dominant victory for Erik ten Hag’s men, who controlled the match from start to finish and could easily have scored more.
United opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Matheus Cunha teed up captain Fernandes, who calmly rolled his finish into the bottom corner.
Wolves drew level just before half-time through Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, who finished smartly inside the right post after good build-up play.
Three minutes into the second half, Diogo Dalot squared the ball for Mbeumo to tap into an empty net, restoring United’s lead.
Moments later, Fernandes again created danger, delivering a precise cross to set up Mason Mount for United’s third, a composed finish into the right corner that effectively put the contest beyond Wolves.
Wolves rarely settled into rhythm and were forced into multiple substitutions after injuries, while United continued to stretch the game with pace and positional rotation. Cunha, Mount and Amad Diallo all had chances as United pressed relentlessly.
The home side’s hopes of a comeback evaporated in the 80th minute when VAR awarded United a penalty for handball.
Fernandes stepped up and buried it into the bottom-left corner, completing his brace and United’s emphatic 4–1 win.
Late on, Wolves missed a glaring chance when Ladislav Krejci headed high over from close range, summing up a frustrating night for the hosts.
The result pushes Manchester United into sixth position as the season enters its midpoint, boosting confidence ahead of the festive fixture run.
Wolves, meanwhile, remain stuck at the bottom.
