At Downing Street on Monday, Labour leader Keir Starmer welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German politician Friedrich Merz.
“We stand with Ukraine,” Starmer said. “Any ceasefire must be fair and lasting. The decisions about Ukraine must be made by Ukraine. We are here to support you in the conflict and in the negotiations.”
Zelensky stressed the need for unity with Europe and the United States to end Russia’s war. “There are some things we cannot manage without the Americans or Europe,” he said. “That is why important decisions need to be made together.”
The meeting shows Western leaders are working closely to support Ukraine and push for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
