A US Congressman, Riley M. Moore, says terrorism in Nigeria could be crushed if recent security agreements between the United States and Nigeria are fully implemented.
Moore spoke after a closed-door meeting between a US Congressional delegation and Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu. The talks focused on strengthening security cooperation and dismantling terrorist networks, especially in the North-East.
“Concrete steps were agreed upon that can disrupt terrorist groups and end attacks on civilians, particularly in the Middle Belt,” Moore said. He added that religiously motivated killings in Nigeria are a concern for US President Donald Trump.
Moore praised the Nigerian government and President Bola Tinubu for rescuing 100 Catholic schoolchildren recently abducted, describing it as a sign of growing responsiveness to security challenges.
He noted the countries are moving closer to a joint security framework, pointing to a new US‑Nigeria task force as evidence of deepening collaboration.
Moore said progress is being made but stressed that goodwill must be matched by action on the ground to ensure lasting peace. He called for continued engagement and dialogue between both nations.
