Jimmy Kimmel has extended his contract with ABC to continue hosting “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” until mid-2027, a source told AFP on Monday. His previous contract was set to expire in May 2026.

The extension comes months after Kimmel’s show was briefly pulled from the air following a dispute with President Donald Trump’s administration. The conflict began after Kimmel criticized Trump and his supporters over the killing of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.

Trump’s Federal Communications Commission Chairman, Brendan Carr, reportedly pressured ABC affiliates to demand Kimmel’s removal. Two major affiliate owners, Nexstar and Sinclair, then announced plans to drop the show, prompting Disney to suspend it nationwide.

After a week, Kimmel returned with a widely praised monologue, calling attempts to censor him “anti-American.” He has continued to mock Trump for falling asleep in meetings and mispronouncing foreign leaders’ names.

Despite Kimmel’s return, Trump has continued to criticize him. At a recent Kennedy Centre awards ceremony, Trump called Kimmel “horrible” while predicting strong ratings for the show.
