Osun 2026: Oyetola Denies Influencing APC Screening Committee
Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, has rejected claims that he influenced the screening of governorship aspirants in the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the Osun 2026 election.
A screening panel chaired by Obinna Uzoh recently disqualified seven aspirants, including former Osun Deputy Governor, Iyiola Omisore.
The panel said those affected failed to present at least five financially active, fully registered APC members from each local government as part of their nomination requirement.
Only Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji and Mulikat Abiola Jimoh were cleared to take part in the party primary scheduled for December 13.
Omisore, during a press briefing, accused Oyetola of influencing the process. He claimed the panel chairman told him that the minister pressured the committee and that the Presidency had chosen Oyebamiji as its preferred candidate.
In response, Oyetola, through his adviser Bolaji Akinola, dismissed the allegations. He described them as untrue and misleading, stating that he neither interfered nor participated in any decision of the panel.
He added that he remains committed to fairness, transparency, and respect for party regulations and would not compromise those principles.
