Sanwo-Olu swears in new LASU leadership team

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday inaugurated the newly constituted Governing Council of Lagos State University (LASU), charging the members to uphold integrity and strengthen the institution’s academic leadership.
The ceremony, held at Lagos House, Ikeja, brought together senior government officials, university executives, and stakeholders in the state’s tertiary education sector. The governor later shared details of the inauguration on his official Facebook page.
Sanwo-Olu described LASU as a vital institution in shaping the future of young people and advancing Lagos’ global academic reputation. He expressed confidence in the new council’s ability to provide focused and exemplary leadership.
“I shared my confidence in their ability to guide the university with integrity, focus and a clear commitment to excellence,” the governor said, emphasising that effective governance is central to the continued growth of the university.
Among those present were the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro (SAN); Secretary to the State Government, ’Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin; Head of Service, Olabode Agoro; and Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Tolani Sule.
Also in attendance were LASU’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, and senior university officials.
Sanwo-Olu formally congratulated Babatunde Ogala (SAN) on his appointment as Chairman of the Governing Council. Other council members, including Remi Desalu, were sworn in and took their oaths of office during the event.
The governor said the newly inaugurated council is expected to steer LASU through reforms and strategic initiatives that will strengthen academic standards, expand research output, and enhance student welfare.
“I look forward to the progress ahead and to the continued growth of LASU as a leading institution in Nigeria and beyond,” Sanwo-Olu added.
