The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that gunmen invaded Ajebo Community near Agbowa in Ikosi-Ejirin LCDA, describing the claims as “mischievous, untrue and misleading.”

A publication by New Telegraph had reported that armed hoodlums stormed the community, looted properties, injured residents and fired gunshots.

However, in a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, clarified that no such attack occurred.

According to the command, the disturbance stemmed from a long-standing land dispute between two families within the community and not an invasion by unknown gunmen.

“The incidents that occurred are a land dispute between two families within the Ajebo Community that led to chaos and confusion in the village,” the statement read.

The police said that upon receiving reports of the unrest, multiple intervention units were deployed, including Tactical Squads, Police Mobile Force anti-riot personnel, operatives from Agbowa Division, Area N Command and special units from the command headquarters.

“Normalcy was promptly restored, and the people of the community continued to go about their normal business,” Adebisi said.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, ordered an immediate investigation, which confirmed that no life was lost and no injuries were recorded before or during the intervention.

He added that contrary to circulating claims, no shots were fired at any point.

“The Command further wishes to reaffirm that there was no firing of any firearm or guns during the incident, contrary to the claims circulated in the report,” the statement emphasised.

The police also denied any suggestion that an armed group invaded the village, stressing that the disturbance was entirely internal, saying that leaders of the two disputing families have since been invited for questioning and warned to maintain peace.

“They have been strongly warned to remain peaceful and that the Police will not hesitate to apply the full weight of the law on troublemakers,” the PPRO said.

Commissioner Jimoh urged journalists and the public to avoid spreading misinformation that could incite panic, calling for responsible reporting.

He reassured residents of Ajebo and Lagos State at large of the command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security.

“Peace has since returned to the area,” the police said..
