2027: Fubara says Rivers will support Tinubu
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has pledged to ensure that President Bola Tinubu wins the state in the 2027 presidential election.
Fubara made the promise on Friday at the Government House in Port Harcourt after formally receiving his membership card of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor said his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC was taken in the interest of peace, development, and political stability in Rivers State.
He added that as the leader of the APC in the state, he would take full responsibility for the party’s activities and welfare, including the needs of its executive members.
“I took this decision for the safety, protection, progress, and development of Rivers State,” Fubara said. “We cannot be doing things differently from the Federal Government and still expect progress.”
Fubara explained that his move to the APC was also a way of reciprocating President Tinubu’s support, which he said helped him remain in office as governor.
“With us now in the same party, it will be easier to mobilise support and ensure that the president’s re-election in 2027 is smooth in Rivers State,” he said.
The governor confirmed that he officially joined the APC on Tuesday, shortly after 17 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly also defected to the ruling party.
Speaking at the flag-off of the By-pass to Port Harcourt International Airport road project, Fubara described himself as the “number one member” of the APC in Rivers.
“I have collected my membership card, and it carries the number 001. The message is clear: we will do everything possible to make 2027 easy for Mr President in Rivers State,” he said.
Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, who performed the flag-off, described Fubara’s defection as a major boost for the APC, saying the party now controls all six states in the South-South region.
