Onazi predicts another AFCON triumph for Nigeria

Former Nigeria international Ogenyi Onazi says he believes the Super Eagles can win their fourth Africa Cup of Nations title at the 2025 tournament in Morocco.

Some people doubt how far the team will go, especially after they failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Head coach Eric Chelle left out big names like Maduka Okoye, Terem Moffi, and Tolu Arokodare from the final squad. Instead, he included newcomers such as Salim Fago Lawal, Tochukwu Nnadi, and Ebenezer Akinsanmiro.

Despite the doubts, Onazi is optimistic. He told Footy Africa, “Just like our team in 2013, we had many new players back then, and people didn’t believe in us. We worked hard and won the title. I expect the same from this team.”

The 2025 AFCON tournament starts on the 21st of December and it will run through Jan 18th 2024.

Host Morocco will play Comoros in the opening match in Rabat on Sunday.
