FG announces new directive for SS3 classes nationwide

HND
Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa

The Federal Government has banned the admission and transfer of students into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) in all public and private secondary schools across Nigeria.

The government said the move is aimed at tackling the rising cases of examination malpractice, especially the use of so-called “special centres” during external examinations, which it says have damaged the credibility of the country’s education system.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja and signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations of the Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade, the policy will take effect from the 2026/2027 academic session.

Under the new directive, student admissions and transfers will now be allowed only into SS1 and SS2. Transfers into SS3 will no longer be permitted under any circumstance.

According to the ministry, the decision is meant to stop last-minute movement of students for exam advantages, ensure proper academic tracking, and promote continuity in teaching and learning.

The statement warned that school owners, principals, and administrators must fully comply with the policy, stressing that any violation will attract sanctions in line with existing education laws and guidelines.

The ministry also restated the Federal Government’s commitment to improving academic standards, ensuring fairness, and restoring confidence in public examinations nationwide.
