Prophet Fufeyin’s mother laid to rest in gold-plated coffin

Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin, founder of Christ Mercyland Deliverance Ministry, has buried his mother, Mama Asetu, in a ceremony that has sparked reactions on social media.

Mama Asetu, who passed away in May 2025 at the age of 104, was laid to rest in December, several months after her death.

Videos and photos from the funeral, which began trending online on Sunday, showed the late matriarch interred in a gold-plated coffin. Family members, associates, and sympathisers attended the service.

Online attention has focused on the coffin’s elaborate design. Unverified reports claim the casket cost over ₦100 million, with some estimating its value at around ₦150 million.

The lavish nature of the burial has generated mixed reactions on social media, with discussions centred on the scale and extravagance of the final rites.
