Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has once again recorded a major box office success as her latest movie, Behind The Scenes, grossed over ₦200 million in its opening weekend.

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has once again recorded a major box office success as her latest movie, Behind The Scenes, grossed over ₦200 million in its opening weekend.

According to the film’s distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, the movie achieved the biggest opening weekend of 2025, making it the first Nollywood film this year to cross the ₦200 million mark within its debut weekend. The distributor also described the feat as a five-time box office opening weekend record and the biggest weekend admission of the year.

Behind The Scenes, which explores the theme of black tax, features a star-studded cast led by Scarlet Gomez, alongside Iyabo Ojo, Funke Akindele, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Uche Montana, Uzor Arukwe, Ini Dima-Okojie, Adebowale ‘Mr Macaroni’, Ibrahim Chatta, Kamo State, and reality TV stars Handi and Wanni Danbaki, among others.

The film had its advanced screenings on December 10 and 11 before officially opening in cinemas nationwide on December 12.

Announcing the milestone via Instagram, FilmOne Entertainment praised Nigerian audiences for their support, describing Akindele as the “Queen of the Box Office” and thanking moviegoers for filling cinemas and spreading the word.

The distributor confirmed that Behind The Scenes is still showing in cinemas across the country.

The latest achievement further strengthens Akindele’s dominance at the Nigerian box office. Her previous film, Everybody Loves Jenifa, broke records to become Nollywood’s biggest opening weekend of all time, surpassing her earlier record set by A Tribe Called Judah, which opened with ₦113 million.

Everybody Loves Jenifa went on to become the highest-grossing Nollywood film ever, earning over ₦1.8 billion in Nigeria, in addition to revenue from international markets. The film crossed the ₦1 billion mark in December 2024 and continued its cinema run into early 2025, setting new benchmarks for West African cinema.
