The President of Dangote Refinery, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has said he lives a simple life and is not driven by money.
Dangote explained that Nigeria’s economy is the one suffering when fuel marketers continue to import petroleum products into the country, not him personally.
He spoke to journalists in Lagos on Sunday, where he expressed concern over the continued importation of fuel despite his $20 billion investment in the Lagos-based refinery.
According to him, Nigeria has imported billions of litres of fuel in the last two months, which has caused huge losses to the country.
“It is Nigeria that is losing, not me,” Dangote said. “I live a simple life and I don’t really need the money.”
He added that if his goal was only to become richer, he would have invested in global technology companies like Google or Microsoft.
Dangote also said that although some people may not appreciate his efforts now, future generations may recognize the impact of his investment.
“Maybe people don’t appreciate what we are doing today,” he said. “But in the next 50 years, when we are no longer around, people will remember what we have done.”
