Namibian min, Hon. Sankwasa, presents “Green Sustainable Housing” award to 90% women-led Mowe Golf Town
In a powerful display of pan-African collaboration, the Minister of Urban and Rural Development of the Republic of Namibia, Honourable Sankwasa James Sankwasa, officially presented Mowe Golf Town (MGT) with the award for Green Sustainable Housing Project of the Year at the 7th Africa Housing Awards.
The high-profile presentation, held at Fraser Suites in Abuja, marked a significant paradigm shift for the industry. Mowe Golf Town, a project less than one year old, defied industry odds to win the category against established legacy companies. The victory was made even more notable by the project’s rapid financial success, having recorded a staggering ₦2.3 Billion in sales within its first year of operations.
The involvement of Honourable Sankwasa underscores the international significance of MGT’s model. During the presentation, the Minister commended the project’s leadership for setting a new benchmark in sustainable development, noting that the recognition moves the conversation from local success to continental standard.
“Projects like Mowe Golf Town represent the future of African infrastructure,” Honourable Sankwasa James Sankwasa stated. “To see a development that prioritizes environmental preservation while delivering economic value is a model that should be replicated across the continent.” Receiving the award, the team highlighted that this success was driven by a unique combination of green technology and intentional branding. Mowe Golf Town boasts a Green House Sustainability Score of over 50%, utilizing advanced biodigester systems and polystyrene technology while preserving 60% of the site’s natural greenery.
“Our goal was never to just build houses; it was to create a sanctuary that aligns with the future of our planet,” said Barr. Labake Adetunmbi, Chief Vision and Strategy Officer of Mowe Golf Town. “Winning this award validates our belief that real estate must be intentional. By integrating storytelling with the United Nations SDGs, we have proven that you can build a project that is profitable, sustainable, and deeply impactful.”
Abimbola Akinkugbe, Chief Developer of Mowe Golf Town, emphasized that the physical construction was designed to offer an ‘escape’ from the concrete jungle. “We are building for the next generation,” Akinkugbe explained.
“From our partnership with Arabella for landscaping to our use of sustainable materials, every brick laid is a commitment to the environment. We are proving that modern construction and nature can coexist seamlessly.”
Perhaps the most disrupting factor of the project’s ascent is its leadership structure. Mowe Golf Town is 90% women-led across Strategy, Marketing, Architecture, and Legal departments, a rarity in the West African real estate sector. Barr. Adaku Chibuike-Ochiuwa, Chief Legal Officer, noted that this diverse leadership was central to their victory.
“This win belongs to the incredible team of women who lead with precision and empathy,” she said. “We have created a space not just for homeowners, but for women in real estate investment through our SOW initiative. We are demonstrating that diverse leadership drives superior results.”
