Senator Ned Nwoko has issued a detailed response to recent public claims by his estranged wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, regarding her alleged inability to see their children, insisting that the directive is tied to court-mandated rehabilitation conditions and not arbitrary restriction.
In a statement released through his communication team, the Delta North lawmaker addressed what he described as “misleading narratives” propagated on social media by Daniels, arguing that her latest posts distort long-established family practices and misrepresent the legal position on custody and access.
“At no point has access to the children been denied without cause,” the statement reads.
“A court has directed that Regina Daniels must undergo drug rehabilitation and be assessed by the Abuja Social Welfare Department before access can be restored to Munir (5) and Khalifa (3),” it added.
According to imagery shared online of the legal directive, the court ruling favours Senator Nwoko and stipulates that the actress must complete a rehabilitation programme and be evaluated by social welfare professionals before seeing her children.
Nwoko’s statement underscored that this directive is a legal condition, not a unilateral decision.
“If there is a genuine desire for contact with the children,” the statement added, “the most responsible and meaningful step remains compliance with the court-directed rehabilitation process and a demonstrated commitment to sustained personal wellness.”
The debate stems from a widely publicised viral video in which Daniels asserted difficulties in her marriage and claimed intervention by her husband’s camp had prevented her from seeing her sons, claims she amplified on social platforms.
In one online post, she said, “The last time I spoke with my kids was mid-November.”
In contrast, Nwoko has repeatedly framed the matter through the lens of health, safety, and rehabilitation.
In previous public remarks carried by multiple outlets, he attributed behavioural changes in Daniels to substance abuse, citing “alarming toxicology reports” and urging that rehabilitation is necessary to ensure her wellbeing and ability to parent effectively.
“I want her alive and healthy, not just for me, but for our children,” the senator said in an interview, emphasising that a stable and sober parent is in the children’s best interest.
The high-profile dispute between the couple, whose marriage has captured sustained public attention, also features counter-accusations from both sides.
Daniels has accused Nwoko of coercive behaviour and, in other posts, of leveraging his influence to restrict her autonomy, while his supporters and allies have backed his stance on rehabilitation and child welfare.
