The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained a 20-year-old social media influencer, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, over what it described as an attempted suicide and dangerous reckless driving during a live social media broadcast.

The arrest followed a viral video that surfaced online on Sunday, December 14, 2025, showing the suspect driving at high speed before crashing his vehicle in what police said was a “dangerous road crash and serious motor accident”, while the incident was being live-streamed to the public.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Command said Hamzat’s actions not only endangered his own life but also posed grave risks to other road users.

According to the police, “His action constitutes a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and endangered the life of other innocent people.”

The Command disclosed that the suspect has been taken into custody and that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation.

“The case is currently being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). The outcome of the investigation will be made public and the suspect will be charged to the court of competent jurisdiction in accordance with the law,” the statement said.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a stern warning to social media influencers, content creators and members of the public against engaging in reckless or unlawful acts for online attention.

He warned that, “Social media platforms must not be used to engage in or promote reckless, dangerous, or criminal acts capable of causing loss of lives or breach of public peace.”

The police commissioner stressed that such behaviour would not be tolerated, adding that offenders would face the full weight of the law, regardless of their online popularity.

The Command also urged motorists and other road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, reiterating its commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining peace across Lagos State.
