Afrobeats Future: Davido reveals the next big names

Afrobeats singer Davido has named Asake, Rema, and Omah Lay as the male artistes he believes could become some of the greatest in Nigerian music.

He made the remarks on Wednesday while appearing on comedian Carter Efe’s Twitch livestream, clips of which have been widely shared on social media.

When asked who he considered the next “GOAT” in the industry, Davido said: “Right now, for me, I say, between Asake, Omah Lay, or Rema. If you ask me. I think they’ve done exceptionally well.”

He added that his comments focused on male artistes, while also recognising the achievements of female stars such as Tems and Ayra Starr. “Obviously, we have Tems, Ayra Starr, stuff like, I’m talking about males. Those three, killing it,” he said.

Davido also spoke warmly about the trio, highlighting their growing international presence. “Omah Lay, obviously, my brother. Rema, love him so much. Asake, have so much love for him as well. They’re all doing amazingly well,” he said.

On their global impact, he added: “Especially like globally. Like it’s just amazing to just be in America and just see them. You know I’m saying. It is not easy o.”
