Eagles boast full strength as Osimhen joins AFCON camp in Cairo
Victor Osimhen’s arrival at the Super Eagles’ AFCON camp in Cairo on Wednesday night has given the team a major morale boost ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Osimhen landed at about 9:45 p.m. Nigerian time, completing the 28-man squad and allowing the team to focus fully on final preparations for their Group C matches against Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda.
Super Eagles Media Officer Promise Efoghe described the striker’s presence as a “big lift” for the squad. “With everyone now in camp, the team can focus on the same objective as preparations intensify,” he said.
The camp, which opened on Dec. 14 at the Renaissance Hotels in Cairo, has already seen two training sessions and a friendly against Egypt, which ended in a 2-1 defeat. While Osimhen, Moses Simon, and Samuel Chukwueze missed the friendly due to club commitments, Efoghe emphasized that the match was meant for tactical assessment rather than results.
Defender Chidozie Awaziem said the friendly highlighted areas that need improvement, while striker Paul Onuachu noted that such matches help the team adjust quickly before the tournament. “We are not discouraged. Every session helps us get sharper,” Onuachu said.
Wednesday’s schedule included a morning gym session and an evening training session, as the team continues to build fitness and cohesion. Efoghe said the players understand the expectations from fans and are determined to deliver in Morocco.
The arrival of Osimhen, one of Nigeria’s key stars, signals not just the completion of the squad but also a renewed sense of unity and focus as the Super Eagles prepare to challenge for the continental title.
