The Guild of Medical Laboratory Directors (GMLD), Lagos State Chapter, has appealed to the Lagos State Government to intervene and resolve the ongoing industrial action embarked upon by the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU).

The Guild made the appeal in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman and Secretary General, Mr Adekoya Julius and Dr Leo Aniakor respectively, on Thursday in Lagos.

The Guild expressed deep concern over the growing impacts of the JOHESU Jstrike on healthcare delivery across Lagos State.

“The withdrawal of services at screening centres has significantly constrained critical laboratory testing required for safe blood transfusion and effective patient management.

“These disruptions are causing avoidable delays in diagnosis and treatment, thereby placing the health and lives of Lagos residents at serious risk,” it said.

The GMLD Lagos further cautioned that the progress and investments made by the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Committee (LSBTC) in strengthening safe and reliable blood services might be eroded if the industrial action persists without timely and effective resolution.

According to the Guild, no resident of Lagos State should suffer a preventable illness or loss of life over matters that are ultimately resolvable through dialogue and negotiation.

The Guild, therefore, urged the Executive Governor of Lagos State, to use his good offices to facilitate constructive engagement among all relevant stakeholders and bring the strike to a prompt and peaceful conclusion in the overriding interest of public health.

The GMLD Lagos reaffirmed its commitment to supporting policies and actions that strengthen healthcare delivery and safeguard the wellbeing of all Lagos people and residents.
