Police in mourning in Ebonyi as top officer suddenly dies

An Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Ogbon-inu Popoola, died after experiencing breathing problem while attending a management meeting of the Ebonyi command.

The circumstances of the death of the ACP which has thrown officers and men of the command into mourning was confirmed to reporters by another senior police officer.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the top police officer said his deceased colleague developed breathing difficulty and began gasping for breath during the meeting and was later confirmed dead at police clinic.

“He was immediately rushed to the command’s clinic at the Police Headquarters, Abakaliki, where he died.

“The officer was confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty,” the officer said.

The spokesperson for the Ebonyi Command, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the sudden death of ACP Ogbon-inu Popoola, in a statement issued in Abakaliki and made available to newsmen on Thursday.

Ukandu confirmed that that Popoola who was the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Intelligence Department died on Wednesday,

“The Ebonyi Police Command regrets to announce the death of Popoola, who died on Wednesday at the command’s clinic, Abakaliki.

“Until his demise, he was the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Intelligence Department.

“Late Popoola was a dedicated officer, who served the force with commitment and professionalism.

“The command commiserates with the family of our departed officer on this irreparable loss,” Ukandu added.

The remains of the deceased had been deposited at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital mortuary in Abakaliki.
