A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) with Niger Police Command arrested for illegal arms dealing identified as Abdullahi Isah has killed himself during investigation into his alleged crime.
Abdullahi Isah was arrested on December 15, 2025, over suspected involvement in illegal ammunition dealings, according to a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, on Friday.
Isah who was attached to 12 PMF Minna fatally shoot himself when he was escorted to his office as part of ongoing audit and investigative procedures.
The incident happened on December 16, 2025, at about 2:30 p.m.
According to the statement by Abiodun, while the arms audit was in progress, DSP Isah reportedly picked up a pistol within the office and fatally shot himself in the head.
However, the police spokesperson said following the incident, the policemen detailed to accompany him for the audit and investigation were arrested for negligence in the line of duty, for allegedly failing to prevent the occurrence.
Police authorities have confirmed that further investigation is ongoing to ascertain all the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to NAN, audit revealed that 13 AK-47 rifles and over 2,000 rounds of ammunition were missing or unaccounted for, covering only the AK-47 section when Isah was the Head of Armoury at Mopol 12
Insp. John Moses, attached to the Niger Government House, was arrested and reportedly confessed that the deceased supplied him arms and ammunition sold to bandits and hoodlums in Erena Community, Shiroro LGA, through his brother.
It was further learnt that operatives from the Office of the National Security Adviser took the suspects to Abuja for further investigation.
Isah was brought back and taken to the armoury for physical audit, where he picked a pistol and shot himself.
The armoury is electronically controlled and only the DSP had access.
At least four other police officers, linked to the late DSP, are also being interrogated.
It was alleged that the deceased owned multiple cars and houses in Minna.
