Major relief for NIN applicants as NIMC changes registration process

FG approves new verification platform for NIN

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has introduced a digital Pre-Enrolment Portal aimed at reducing long queues and speeding up the National Identification Number (NIN) registration process.

The commission announced the launch on Friday, saying the portal allows applicants to enter their personal details, upload required documents and book appointments online before visiting enrolment centres for biometric capture.

According to NIMC, the new system will significantly reduce waiting time at centres, improve the accuracy of data submitted and make the registration process easier for Nigerians.

The Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, Dr Kayode Adegoke, said the platform is open to applicants both in Nigeria and in the Diaspora, allowing them to submit their biodata online ahead of physical enrolment.

NIMC added that the initiative will help decongest enrolment centres across the country and improve service delivery.

The commission said the move aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on digital transformation, efficient public services and inclusive national development.

Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NIMC, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, said the portal will simplify enrolment by allowing applicants to complete a large part of the process online before appearing for biometric capture.

Key features of the portal include online data entry and management, appointment scheduling to reduce delays, secure handling of personal information and easy upload of required documents.

NIMC urged Nigerians yet to register for NIN to use the new portal, describing it as a faster and more convenient way to complete the registration process.
