President Tinubu praised Gbadegesin’s fearlessness, brilliance and clarity of thought, particularly his role as a United States–based democratic activist during Nigeria’s struggle to return to democratic rule in the 1990s. He noted that the scholar was deeply involved in the fight to ensure the recognition of the winner of the June 12 presidential election, often at great personal risk.
