Popular Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has declared that the long-standing stigma associated with single motherhood has faded, insisting that single mothers are now thriving personally, professionally, and socially.
The actress made the remarks in a recent video that has gone viral online.
In a characteristically bold tone, Ojo, who jokingly refers to herself as the “President-General of the Single Mothers Association,” said societal perceptions have shifted significantly in favour of women raising children on their own.
According to her, single mothers are excelling in their careers and raising children who are making notable strides across different sectors.
Ojo also claimed that men now see single mothers as desirable partners because of their maturity and life experience.
“Gone are the days when being a single mother was a stigma. Single mothers’ children are doing great things in life. Men are chasing single mothers,” she said.
“They are even begging us; they don’t want us to be a side chick. They want us to marry them because we have experience.”
Encouraging women not to see failed relationships as the end of the road, the actress added that new beginnings are always possible.
“If a man leaves you, another man will accept you,” she said.
The movie star, who recently celebrated her daughter Priscilla’s baby shower, used the moment to urge women to prioritise self-development and emotional independence. She advised mothers not to assume that past struggles must automatically repeat themselves in their children’s lives.
