21 Boko Haram fighters killed as soldiers ambush convoy
Troops of the Nigerian Army, operating under Operation HADIN KAI, have successfully ambushed a Boko Haram/ISWAP logistics convoy in Borno State, neutralising 21 terrorists in a decisive action that disrupted the insurgents’ supply lines.
The operation took place in the Sojiri and Kayamla communities, following credible intelligence that more than 100 terrorists had gathered in the area to coordinate attacks on nearby towns and transport supplies to their strongholds.
According to a statement from the Nigerian Army’s official X handle on Sunday, soldiers, working in close coordination with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local vigilantes, intercepted the convoy at around noon, leading to a fierce and sustained firefight.
“The troops immediately engaged the enemy. The terrorists attempted a rear-flanking attack, but our forces responded with superior firepower and dominated the engagement,” the statement said.
Subsequent operations deep in the forest confirmed the neutralisation of 21 terrorists, while others are believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds. The army said follow-on operations were ongoing to determine additional casualties and recover more items.
Items seized from the convoy included bicycles, food supplies, drugs, medical materials, detergents, clothing, torchlights, assorted weapons and ammunition, highlighting the critical role the ambush played in disrupting insurgent logistics and sustainment.
The Nigerian Army said morale among troops remains high, with fighting efficiency described as strong and unwavering, stressing that the operation demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-driven joint security efforts in weakening terrorist networks in the region.
