Sanwo-Olu swears in Obasa’s Son as Agege Council Chairman

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday formally swore in Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa as Chairman of Agege Local Government, charging him to view leadership as a responsibility anchored on service, discipline and measurable results.

Obasa, the son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudasiru Obasa, had been acting in the capacity following the resignation of the former chairman, Tunde Azeez, who stepped aside on health grounds.

His swearing-in at the Lagos House, Ikeja, officially confirmed him as substantive chairman.

At the same ceremony, the governor also administered the oath of office to Mrs Toyin Anjous-Ademuyiwa as Permanent Secretary in the Lagos State Office of Transformation, Creativity and Innovation (OTCI), reinforcing the administration’s emphasis on strengthening both political and technocratic leadership.

Addressing the appointees and guests, Sanwo-Olu said governance in Lagos State remains firmly rooted in merit, accountability and public trust, noting that appointments are made to advance service delivery rather than personal privilege.

He stressed that leadership at all levels of government in the state is guided by the will of the people and a commitment to outcomes that positively impact residents.

According to him, public office holders are expected to demonstrate integrity, diligence and tangible performance.

“Leadership in Lagos State is defined by service, discipline and results,” the governor said.

“The offices you now occupy are not rewards; they are responsibilities. The people of Lagos expect diligence, integrity and impact—and they deserve nothing less.”

Sanwo-Olu further reminded members of the political class and public service that excellence and dedication to duty remain the standards by which advancement is earned in the state.

In his remarks, Obasa pledged to run an inclusive and united administration in Agege, disclosing that reconciliation efforts within the All Progressives Congress and across the local government had been ongoing since the party’s primary election.

Anjous-Ademuyiwa, on her part, expressed gratitude to the governor for the confidence reposed in her, assuring that she would bring her experience to bear in supporting innovation-driven growth and development across Lagos State.
