Sanwo-Olu also pointed to easing food prices, growing confidence in Nigeria’s e-commerce space and increased foreign direct investment as indicators of gradual economic stabilisation.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has expressed strong confidence that Nigerians will reward Bola Tinubu with a second term in office in the 2027 general elections, citing what he described as the tangible gains of the administration’s economic and governance reforms.
Speaking during an interview on Journalist Hangout, a programme aired on Television Continental, Sanwo-Olu said the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda has begun to yield measurable outcomes across key sectors, making a compelling case for re-election.
According to the Lagos governor, President Tinubu has fulfilled many of the commitments he made to Nigerians, particularly in the areas of fiscal reforms, infrastructure development and improved revenue generation for both national and subnational governments.
“President Bola Tinubu has a good chance to be re-elected in 2027 because the reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda have positively impacted governance and infrastructure across the country,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He noted that revenues accruing to states and local governments have increased significantly, enabling improved service delivery and accelerated infrastructure development.
Sanwo-Olu also pointed to easing food prices, growing confidence in Nigeria’s e-commerce space and increased foreign direct investment as indicators of gradual economic stabilisation.
“We have seen better foreign inflows. We have seen renewed interest from our diaspora population coming back to invest. There will still be challenges, but the President is focused, strategic and doing his very best,” he added.
Sanwo-Olu further argued that the expanding political support base for the president reflects confidence in his leadership, noting that the number of governors aligned with the ruling All Progressives Congress has grown since the 2023 elections.
“Politically, more governors are supporting him. We had about 20 APC governors after the last election, and today we have about 28 or 29. That, in itself, is a measure of success,” he said, describing Tinubu as a leader deeply committed to Nigeria’s progress.
Reiterating his optimism, the governor said Nigerians would ultimately judge the president by visible outcomes.
“Nigerians can see the work being done. Revenues have improved, loopholes have been blocked, compliance has increased, and this has helped governments do more in infrastructure,” he stated.
Sanwo-Olu also used the platform to highlight the achievements of his administration in Lagos State, driven by the THEMES+ Agenda, particularly in transportation, security, tourism, entertainment, environmental sustainability and technology.
He maintained that sustained reforms at the federal level, coupled with effective governance at the state level, would continue to strengthen public confidence ahead of the 2027 elections.
