President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerians to embrace peace, tolerance and unity as he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to religious freedom and national security in his 2025 Christmas goodwill message.

In a statement issued on Wednesday to mark the Christmas celebration, Tinubu urged citizens to reflect on the deeper meaning of the season, describing Christmas as a reminder of “the significance of Jesus Christ’s birth and his message of salvation as the Prince of Peace.”

“As we mark this year’s Christmas, may the love of Christ and his message of grace, hope, peace, and goodwill to humanity abide with us all,” the President said, extending warm greetings to Christians in Nigeria and across the world.

He thanked God for the opportunity to serve as Nigeria’s leader and offered prayers for peace and harmony, particularly among citizens of different religious beliefs.

According to him, fostering peaceful coexistence remains central to his leadership agenda.

“As your President, I remain committed to doing everything within my power to enshrine religious freedom in Nigeria and to protect all people of different faiths from violence,” Tinubu assured.

The President paid tribute to the role of Christians in Nigeria’s development, noting that the teachings of Christ and the Gospel have inspired many to care for the vulnerable and the less privileged.

“The love of Christ and the message of the Gospel have inspired many Christians to care for the vulnerable and less privileged in our society. We honour those who, following the example of Jesus, work tirelessly to promote peace, harmony, and tolerance in their communities,” he said.

Reflecting on the nation’s challenges, Tinubu encouraged Nigerians not to lose hope, stressing that faith remains a source of strength in difficult times.

“For those who bring hope and faith in the midst of despair, this season is a reminder that, despite daunting challenges, God is with us,” he added.

Reiterating his administration’s priorities since assuming office in 2023, the President said his government remains resolute in safeguarding Nigeria’s security, unity and stability.

“That commitment remains steadfast under God and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. All Nigerians have the right to live, worship, and pursue their aspirations in safety and dignity,” Tinubu stated.

He strongly condemned religious persecution, insisting that no citizen should suffer for practising their faith.

“No one, regardless of ethnicity or belief, should be made to suffer for professing and practising his faith,” he said, adding that shared values across religions must continue to bind Nigerians together “as one indivisible and resilient people.”

The President also disclosed that he has engaged religious leaders from both major faiths throughout the year, especially against the backdrop of concerns over intolerance and insecurity.

He said such engagements would be intensified to strengthen collaboration, prevent conflict and promote peaceful coexistence.

As the festive season prompts increased travel, Tinubu appealed to Nigerians to exercise patience and discipline on the roads.

“I wish all travellers a safe journey and a safe return to their destinations,” he said.

Expressing optimism about the country’s future, the President said: “With confidence in divine providence and our collective strength, we will continue the work of building a greater Nigeria—one that future generations will be proud of.”
