Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has said the defection of Rivers National Assembly members from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to the All Progressives Congress, APC will help position the state at the centre of national governance and unlock opportunities for development.

Fubara said this while welcoming 11 members of National Assembly from Rivers who recently defected from the PDP to the APC.

Two Rivers Senators — Allwell Onyesoh (Rivers East) and Barinada Mpigi (Rivers South-East) had on Tuesday announced their defection from the PDP to the APC.

Also, six members of House of Representatives – Dumnamene Dekor, Solomon Bob, Cyril Hart, Victor Obuzor, Blessing Amadi, and Felix Nwaeke had also announced that they are joining the ruling party on the floor of the green chamber.

Rivers House of Reps member, believed to be loyal to Fubara, Awaji-Inombek Abiante, Boniface Emerengwa, Boma Goodhead, and Umezuruike Manuchim had also last week announced their defection from the PDP to APC.

Fubara said the defection of the lawmakers are a validation of his earlier move to the APC and demonstration of commitment to the progress of Rivers State and the nation.

The Rivers State Governor added that the defection of the lawmakers was in alignment with the ongoing reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He expressed confidence that the growing coalition of lawmakers will support the success of the President’s policies and reforms.

Fubara added that he is personally committed to ensuring President Tinubu’s victory in the 2027 general elections.

He also appealed to other Rivers residents to join the APC and contribute to a new era of peace, progress, and prosperity in the state.
