Sleeping with socks on is found to be a habit some people find convenient. But what happen when you do this are what Smarica Pant of the INDIA TODAY pointed out.

It is revealed that while many people find it uncomfortable, some others say it helps them fall asleep faster and wake up feeling better.

The report informed that health experts said the habit could actually affect sleep quality, body temperature, and even circulation.

Generally, no emphatic position is held by the experts as to whether sleeping with socks on is good or bad.

According to them, this depends on the individual body, the weather, and the type of socks one wears. But explanations were offered as to what really happens when you sleep with your socks on.

Benefits

Wearing socks warms your feet, which helps blood vessels expand. This process, called vasodilation, signals the brain that it is time to sleep. As a result, your body cools down faster, which is essential for good sleep. Many sleep specialists say warm feet can reduce the time it takes to fall asleep.

People who sleep with socks on often report fewer nighttime awakenings. Warm feet help maintain a stable body temperature throughout the night, reducing discomfort caused by cold, and this can lead to deeper, more restful sleep, especially in winter or in air-conditioned rooms.

It’s also posited that for people with poor circulation or cold feet; socks can help improve the blood flow. This is especially helpful for older adults or those who often experience numbness or tingling in their feet at night. Better circulation can also reduce leg cramps during sleep.

In addition, it’s found that wearing clean, breathable socks after applying moisturiser is capable of helping to lock in moisture which is beneficial for people with dry or cracked heels.

Demerits

It is warned that sleeping with socks on is not ideal for everyone and generally accepted that dirty or too tight or synthetic socks can trap heat and sweat, leading to skin irritation or fungal infections. It is also found that feeling too warm at night could disrupt sleep, making it do more harm than good.
