Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has signed the N901.841 billion 2026 appropriation bill into law, marking a major step toward accelerating development across the state.

The approved budget documents were formally presented to the governor on Wednesday by the Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatim, following the legislature’s unanimous passage of the bill during Tuesday’s plenary session.

The budget, christened “Budget of Innovation and Transformation for Greater Jigawa II,” was assented to at a ceremony held at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Dutse, attended by top government officials and stakeholders.

Speaking after signing the bill, Governor Namadi described the spending plan as a “citizen budget,” noting that it was designed to reflect the needs and aspirations of the people of Jigawa State.

“This budget reflects the yearnings and aspirations of Jigawa State citizens,” the governor said.

According to him, the 2026 budget places strong emphasis on capital development, with N693.4 billion allocated to capital projects aimed at boosting infrastructure and improving the quality of life of residents.

Namadi disclosed that N75 billion has been earmarked for agriculture, including food and livestock production, stressing that the allocation is targeted at enhancing food security and promoting commercial farming across the state.

The governor added that recurrent expenditure stands at N208.4 billion, explaining that the provision would ensure effective governance and the smooth delivery of public services.

He further revealed that the education and health sectors jointly received over N310 billion, noting that both sectors remain critical to Jigawa’s human capital development and long-term growth.

“This budget will spur growth and improve living standards,” Namadi assured, adding that infrastructure such as roads and energy projects also received significant funding.

He pointed out that the 2026 budget represents a 19.2 per cent increase over the 2025 fiscal year, underscoring the administration’s commitment to economic expansion and sustainable development.

Earlier, Speaker Haruna Aliyu Dangyatim said the Assembly acted swiftly to pass the budget in the interest of development, adding that more than 26 per cent of the total allocation was dedicated to education.

“We prioritised development and the needs of our people,” Dangyatim said, while assuring that the legislature would closely monitor project implementation through effective oversight.
