Mahrez is currently joint-leading scorer with two goals, sharing the spotlight with Senegal striker Nicolas Jackson and Tunisia forward Elias Achouri.
The former Manchester City winger netted both of his goals during Algeria’s emphatic 3–0 win over Sudan, underlining his influence as the Desert Foxes continue their campaign.
Jackson also registered a brace to power Senegal to victory against Botswana on Tuesday, while Achouri struck twice to inspire Tunisia’s win over Uganda on the same day.
As the tournament prepares for the second round of group-stage fixtures starting on Friday, the race for the Golden Boot is already taking shape, with several high-profile players finding the net.
